Sixteen years ago , Shihlin was the cutlery center for the entire island . Now , only one factory remains, run by Chiu Chine-chih(邱建枝) and his son (邱顯曜) , the third and fourth generation in a 60-year dynasty of forging cutlery . Chiu’s shop offers a wide range of knives , scissors , and cleavers , each with is purpose , and shape determined by centuries of refinement.

From a one-inch blade for your pocket key-chain (NT$35) to a four-inch blade the farmer (NT$70) . These knives are from German steel . riveted with brass into a plastic or buffalo horn case . A made eight-inch blade , with the highest steel and buffalo born , can be had NT$300.
